That 70’s Show is a popular sitcom which follows the life of a group of friends in the 70’s. The kids try to enjoy their newly found freedom, hang out in the house all day and smoke pot. However, the show is not all about that. It is actually a cultural show, depicting the lives of young kids in the 70’s and family ties as they were in those times.
The 70’s Show is also all about the family. The lead characters are Fez, played by Wilmer Valderrama. Fez is a hilarious foreign exchange student with religious parents. Jackie is played by Mila Kunis who is a rich girl with busy parents and she herself is quite domineering. Jackie’s boyfriend is Kelso, played by Ashton Kutcher. Ashton Kutcher is totally in his element playing the role of the dumb boyfriend, which he manages to pull off flawlessly.
The neighbors of the Formans’ are quite interesting too. The Mom is played by Tanya Roberts, who is a party girl and Dad is a wannabe of the 70’s, played by Don Stark. Donna, played by Laura Prepon is their daughter who runs to her neighbors and to her boyfriend Eric to get some peace from the chaos in her house.
The culture of the 70’s, the bell bottoms and the perms that dictated the trend of the decade are all a part of the series. Several of the elements from the 70’s that were well known are incorporated in the show. That 70’s show Seasons 1-8 is a collection of hilarious episodes that recreate the magic of olden glorious days for those who had been youngsters in the 70’s and allow others to imagine what life must have been like in the 70’s.
The dvd box set of the show has episodes which show the complex moral issues which were quite characteristic of the 70’s. For example, Eric and Donna believe that its all right to have sex before marriage, which was progressive for that time. On the other hand like Kelso if it is not done for all the right reasons then it only manages to complicate things.
The show manages to put several messages across to viewers, like there’s nothing wrong with being just a housewife and being a working woman is good too. That 70’s show puts together a very balanced view of the decade and the life of youngsters at the time with its witty lines and its adorable cast.
